Where these prices come from
Each country's price comes from its official publisher. That means the UAE Fuel Price Committee, Saudi Aramco, QatarEnergy, Oman Oil Marketing Company and Bahrain's fuel pricing committee for the Gulf. For Europe, it is the European Commission's Weekly Oil Bulletin for all 27 EU countries, the UK government's weekly road fuel prices, Statistics Canada, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), India's state oil companies and Pakistan's price notifications. Where the official page could not be read directly, the source link points to a news report of the official announcement.
How often prices change
Gulf countries set petrol and diesel prices once a month. The UAE, Qatar and Oman announce them at the end of the month for the next one, and Saudi Aramco reviews its prices in the middle of the month. EU and UK figures are weekly averages. In the United States the EIA surveys retail stations every Monday; we show the average for the latest full month and, under it, the newest weekly figure with its date. Indian and Pakistani prices can change on any day. We update this table every month and show the exact date of each price, so you always know how current it is.
Why fuel costs so much more in some countries
The crude oil price is similar everywhere, so most of the difference comes from tax and subsidy. In much of Europe and the UK, duty and VAT make up around half of the pump price. Gulf producers tax fuel lightly or not at all, which is why a litre in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Qatar costs a fraction of a litre in the Netherlands or Denmark.
Petrol grades are not the same everywhere
The table shows the grade most drivers use in each country: Special 95 in the UAE, 95 in Saudi Arabia, Super 95 in Qatar, M95 in Oman, Mumtaz 95 in Bahrain, Euro-super 95 in the EU and standard unleaded in the UK and Canada, and regular gasoline in the United States, where the diesel figure is No. 2 on-highway diesel. American prices are quoted per US gallon, which holds 3.785 litres, so we show both the gallon price and what it works out to per litre. Higher grades such as Super 98 cost more. For India, the price is the Delhi retail price; other cities differ because of state taxes.
Not live prices
This is a monthly reference table, not a live feed, and pump prices at a particular station can differ. Before you rely on a price for a business decision, check the latest announcement on the source linked in the table. Kuwait is not listed yet because we could not confirm its current official prices.
