When PNG is the better format
Every time a JPG is edited and saved again, it is compressed again and loses a little more detail. PNG never does, which makes it the right format for images you will keep editing, crop several times or place in a design. PNG is also the format many online forms, school portals and print shops ask for when they want an exact copy of a scan, a signature or a stamp. Converting once to PNG locks in the quality you have now.
What converting can and cannot do
Converting a JPG to PNG keeps the picture exactly as it looks in the JPG, pixel for pixel. It cannot bring back detail that JPG compression already removed, and it does not make a photo sharper. It also does not remove the background: the PNG will have the same solid background as the JPG. Expect the PNG to be larger than the JPG, often two to five times, because lossless files keep every pixel.
Phone photos stay the right way up
Phones often save a photo sideways with a hidden tag that tells the gallery app to rotate it. PNG has no such tag in most apps, so a careless conversion can leave the picture on its side. This tool applies the rotation while converting, so the PNG looks exactly as the photo did in your gallery, with the correct width and height.
Private and unlimited
The conversion uses your browser's own image engine. The images are decoded and saved as PNG in memory on your phone or computer, then downloaded straight to your device. Nothing is uploaded to NeedMyTools or anyone else, so it is safe for identity documents, contracts and family photos. There is no account, no watermark and no daily limit, and once the page has loaded the tool works offline.
