What goes into the cost of Hajj or Umrah
Most of the money goes on a few large items: the return flight, the visa and any permits or insurance, and hotel nights near the Haram in Makkah and the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah. After those come ground transport between the airport, Makkah and Madinah, food for every day of the stay, a sacrifice if you arrange one, and personal spending such as gifts, laundry, SIM cards and ihram clothes. The calculator keeps each of these on its own line and shows what share of the total it takes, so you can see at a glance where a cheaper option would make the biggest difference.
Package or booking it yourself
A package bundles most costs into one price per person, often including hotels, transport and sometimes flights and the visa. In package mode, enter that price and add only what the offer leaves out. When you book things yourself, hotels are usually priced per room per night, not per person, so the calculator asks for the room price and how many people share each room, works out the number of rooms, and multiplies by the nights in each city. Food is counted per person for every night you stay. Comparing both modes with real quotes is a simple way to see whether a package is good value for your group.
Booking through official channels
Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah says Umrah packages can be booked through accredited service providers and approved travel platforms that are integrated with Nusuk, its official platform, and that Nusuk lets visitors plan their own Umrah and visit to the Prophet's Mosque. Hajj arrangements for pilgrims from abroad depend on your country, so check the official route for where you live before paying anyone. Rules, permits and fees can change between seasons; always confirm them on the official pages rather than relying on old figures from social media.
Qurbani and hady
Whether a sacrifice is required, and of what kind, depends on the type of pilgrimage you perform and on questions that scholars answer, not a calculator. This page gives no ruling. If you have been told to arrange a sacrifice, or you choose to offer one, enter how many animals and the price you were quoted, and it is added to the budget like any other cost. For the rules themselves, ask a scholar you trust or your Hajj or Umrah provider's religious guide.
Keeping the budget realistic
Prices change with the time of year and demand, so get quotes for your actual dates rather than using someone else's trip. Exchange rates move as well: if your quotes are in different currencies, convert them on the same day before you enter them. The safety buffer adds a percentage on top of everything for price rises, a missed connection or a medical expense; pick the level you are comfortable with. Download the CSV to share the plan with your family or travel companions, and update it as quotes come in.
