Which allowances GOSI deducts from
GOSI does not take its share from the whole package. It counts three things: the basic wage, the housing allowance, and monthly commissions or a percentage of sales. If your employer gives you a flat instead of a cash allowance, GOSI values that housing at two months of basic wage a year, which is one sixth of the basic wage each month. Transport, food, phone and other allowances are paid to you in full but are not on GOSI’s list, so they raise your net pay without raising the deduction. Example: basic SAR 6,000, housing SAR 1,500 and transport SAR 600 make a gross salary of SAR 8,100 but a contributory wage of SAR 7,500.
How much is deducted from a Saudi employee
Under the Social Insurance Law of 1421H the employee pays 9% of the contributory wage to the annuities (pension) branch and 0.75% to SANED, the unemployment insurance scheme, 9.75% in all. On a contributory wage of SAR 7,500 that is SAR 675 plus SAR 56.25, a deduction of SAR 731.25 a month and SAR 8,775 a year. GOSI says SANED stops automatically when the contributor reaches 60, so from that age only the annuities share is taken. The yearly figures in the calculator are the monthly ones multiplied by 12; bonuses, overtime and raises are not added.
New entrants under the 2024 Social Insurance Law
The new Social Insurance Law came into force on 3 July 2024. GOSI says it covers civil workers in the private and government sectors who join the labour market after that date and have no earlier contribution periods that were not paid out. For them the annuities share rises by 0.5% a year, for the employee and the employer alike, while SANED stays at 0.75%. If you were registered before 3 July 2024, or have earlier periods that were never compensated, the 9% rate of the 1421H law stays. GOSI’s published timetable:
- 3 July 2024 (law in force): 9% employee, 9% employer
- 1 July 2025: 9.5% employee, 9.5% employer
- 1 July 2026: 10% employee, 10% employer
- 1 July 2027: 10.5% employee, 10.5% employer
- 1 July 2028: 11% employee, 11% employer
Non-Saudi employees
Non-Saudi workers are covered only by the occupational hazards branch. Its 2% contribution is paid entirely by the employer, so nothing is taken from a non-Saudi’s salary for GOSI and the net pay shown equals the gross cash salary. GOSI’s minimum wage for this branch is SAR 400 a month. Workers from other GCC countries come under a separate law that extends their home insurance cover, and this calculator does not model it.
The floor and the cap
GOSI’s minimum contributory wage is SAR 1,500 a month in the annuities branch and SAR 400 for workers in the hazards branch only. The maximum is SAR 45,000 a month, set in Article 19 of the Social Insurance Law. If your basic wage plus housing is above SAR 45,000, the deduction is worked out on SAR 45,000, so a Saudi under the 1421H law never pays more than SAR 4,387.50 a month.
What this calculator leaves out
We include only rules we could check on gosi.gov.sa. The calculator does not model the 10% yearly limit on raises to the contributory wage after age 50, part-month contributions when you join or leave mid-month, voluntary contributors, the civil and military pension laws, or GCC nationals. Other deductions such as loan repayments, absences or penalties depend on your contract and are not included. For your exact figure, check your record in the Taminaty (تأميناتي) app or ask HR. Once you know your net pay, you can turn it into a payslip or a salary certificate, or estimate your end-of-service award.
