Which NOC do you need?
Read the request before writing the letter, because each office checks for different words. A visa centre wants to see that leave was approved and that the employee is expected back. A bank or a licensing office mainly wants confirmation of employment and the employer's consent. When the authority gives its own NOC template, use that template and copy its wording instead.
- Travel or visa: destination, travel dates and that the employee will return to work
- Bank account or loan: employment and consent; salary details belong on a salary certificate
- Driving licence: employment and consent to the licence application
- Other: the exact activity, in the words the requesting office uses
NOC, salary certificate and leave approval
An NOC states consent, not pay. If the embassy also asks for income, give a salary certificate as well; this site has a separate generator for it. A leave approval is an internal HR record of the days off; an NOC is meant for an outside office. Some visa applications ask for all three, so check the checklist of the embassy or visa centre.
Before you sign
Check the employee's name against the passport letter by letter, because a misspelt name is the commonest reason an NOC is rejected. Make the travel dates match the approved leave and the flight booking. Sign in ink or with your company's approved signature and add the stamp. Keep a copy in the employee's file with the reference number.
