India Government Services: Passport Seva, eMigrate, Aadhaar, Income Tax and Embassies

India runs most citizen services online, but each one sits on its own official site, and search results for "Indian passport" or "Aadhaar update" are crowded with paid agents and lookalike domains. This page lists the Indian government sites we opened and checked on 19 October 2026, with what each one actually handles. It is written for Indians working in the Gulf and their families at home: passports and police clearance, emigration clearance, Aadhaar, tax, pensions, complaints and the embassy services you will need abroad.

Quick answer

Start at india.gov.in, the National Portal of India, which indexes more than 14,000 central and state online services. Passports and police clearance certificates are on Passport Seva (passportindia.gov.in), emigration clearance and recruiting agent checks on eMigrate (emigrate.gov.in), Aadhaar on uidai.gov.in, tax returns on incometax.gov.in, and consular complaints from abroad on MADAD (madad.gov.in).

Before you use these sites

Passports and PCC: only passportindia.gov.in

Passport Seva warns that fraudulent websites and apps collect applicants’ data and charge heavy extra fees for filling forms and booking appointments, some on .org, .in and .com addresses. The official site is passportindia.gov.in, the Passport Seva app, or your embassy or consulate if you live abroad.

Check the agent before you pay for a Gulf job

eMigrate lets you search registered recruiting agents and publishes a list of unregistered agencies that people have complained about. If your passport is ECR, the job also needs emigration clearance through eMigrate; our India to Gulf guide explains ECR, PBBY and fair agent fees step by step.

In trouble abroad: mission first, then MADAD

Indian missions in the Gulf run 24/7 helplines (in the UAE, 800-46342 toll free). If a consular service is delayed or refused, log it on MADAD so it is tracked; for a complaint against a ministry or department in India, use CPGRAMS instead.

Common questions

What is the official website for Indian government services?

india.gov.in, the National Portal of India. It is a searchable index of central and state services, schemes and helplines; most services themselves run on their own .gov.in sites, which it links to.

How do I apply for an Indian police clearance certificate (PCC)?

Register on Passport Seva (passportindia.gov.in) or the Passport Seva app and fill in the PCC form online. One application covers one country. If you live abroad, your Indian embassy or consulate handles it; the Dubai consulate, for example, lists PCC among its passport services.

Can I update my Aadhaar address online?

Yes. UIDAI’s site offers an address update using your own documents or a family member’s Aadhaar, for a ₹75 fee as shown on 19 October 2026. Changes that need biometrics are done at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

Where does an NRI file an Indian income tax return?

On the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal (incometax.gov.in), which has a non-resident section listing the returns, slabs and deductions that apply. From abroad, the e-filing helpline numbers are +91-80-46122000 and +91-80-61464700.

How can a pensioner living abroad submit a life certificate?

Government pensioners can generate a digital life certificate on Jeevan Pramaan with biometric authentication, and it goes straight to the paying bank or post office. Rules for pensioners outside India vary by pension body, so confirm with your disbursing agency or the Indian mission where you live.

NeedMyTools is not a government website. Links and descriptions were checked on the date above; services, fees and rules can change, so always confirm on the official site. Arabic text is pending native review.
